Briefing.

These policies are as important as the rules — read and understand all of them before you compete.

COLD
SAFETY · FIRST

THIS IS A
COLD RANGE.

Firearms are handled only in designated safety areas or under the direct supervision of match staff. No ammunition in any safety area.

We make generous staging arrangements separate from safety areas — please don't put our staff in a position to enforce. It's our job to make the rules easy to follow; it's yours to make every reasonable effort to comply.

UNCASED FIREARMS — EXCLUSIVE LIST
  • AHolstered
  • BAction locked open
  • CChamber flagged

Spent or live ammo cases are NOT acceptable chamber flags.

Cold Range & Firearm Handling

COLD RANGE

The range is a cold range. Firearms will not be handled anywhere on the range except in designated safety areas or under the direct supervision of match staff, or as otherwise described herein. Handling unbagged/unholstered handguns in parking areas is considered unsafe gun handling.

UNCASED FIREARMS — EXCLUSIVE LIST

Uncased firearms must be: A) holstered, B) action locked open, or C) chamber flagged. You have options, but this is an exclusive list. It is acceptable to move about the range — in a cart, wagon, vehicle, or in hand — as long as a firearm is in one of these conditions, with the muzzle oriented up or down at a steep angle.

LONG GUN TRANSFER

Long guns may be transferred safely from your automobile to carts as needed, with actions locked open and/or a chamber flag inserted if outside of a case. Live or spent ammunition cases ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE CHAMBER FLAGS.

02

Safety Areas

NO AMMUNITION

The range is equipped with a number of safety areas to bag and holster guns, for dry fire practice, gun repair, etc. No ammunition may be handled in any safety area.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

Competitors are responsible for adherence to rules 2.4, 2.5 and 2.6. We are all reasonable, experienced multigunners — staff will not be roving around looking to enforce, but the rules will be enforced. Keep equipment handling to an appropriate level so staff are not compelled to intervene.

03

Staging Areas

THE MOST-ASKED-ABOUT PART

Staging areas are confined by large sections of gates, sized to prep a squad's firearms and hold a preload table. Competitors are responsible for their handling of firearms in staging areas; ROs monitor activity within them though they may not always actively be doing so.

ON-DECK = SPORTSMANSHIP

ROs designate a space where on-deck shooters present themselves WITH all of their gear. The expectation is that a competitor will be in this area, with all their gear, at the start signal for the competitor preceding them. As this is imperative to match flow, this conduct is considered sportsmanship and subject to applicable rules.

CLEAR & RETURN

In coordination with stage staff, squads are encouraged to assist in clearing firearms and safely returning them to the staging area promptly as the range is being cleared.

04

Safety Tables

NOT A STAGING AREA

Safety Tables are still safety tables. They have a defined purpose in the rule book and SHOULD NOT be considered synonymous with a Staging Area.

NO AMMO OR FEEDING DEVICES

For Safety Tables to properly serve their function of facilitating a cold range, it is the shooter's responsibility NOT TO HANDLE AMMUNITION OR AMMUNITION FEEDING DEVICES in this very specific area. This will be enforced stricter than last year — we have made generous staging arrangements separate from safety areas.

05

Vehicles, Carts & Gates

PARKING

Street-legal vehicles are expected to be parked in the designated parking areas, which in almost all cases will be too far away to "work out of." Parking areas are clearly marked on the range map. Lock your car and take your valuables.

CARTS & WAGONS

Carts and wagons are encouraged and worth bringing if you have the means. Personal motorized golf carts / UTVs are allowed — drive slowly and cautiously, and park only on the side of the range road, leaving clearance for staff vehicles at all times.

OFF-ROAD VEHICLES — GATE 1 TRAIL ONLY

ATV / side-by-side / golf cart use IS NOT LEGAL OUTSIDE THE FENCES of the club. The area is actively patrolled and local law enforcement does not look the other way. Off-road access to Gate 1 (Stages 1 & 2) is only available via the marked trail inside the club fence. Space is limited — pool for at least two shooters and keep use to utility purposes and courteous speeds. You have been warned.

06

Competition Rules & Officials

RULES

The match rules are found in the current edition of the USPSA Rifle, Shotgun, and Multigun Rules — the March 2026 edition will be used for this event.

OBEY YOUR ROs

Range Officers are here to assist you in completing a safe shooting contest. Please comply with their requests, and bring any issues to the attention of one of the Range Masters.

SET STEEL & TAPE TARGETS

Competitors are expected to stay together as a squad to tape, set steel, reset, and help maintain efficiency on each stage.

DIVISIONS

Open, Tactical, Limited, Modified (provisional), Heavy Metal Tactical, and Heavy Metal Limited divisions are eligible. For division-specific equipment requirements, consult the USPSA Multigun rules.

07

Inspection & Range Opening

WRITTEN STAGE BRIEFING

When the entire squad is assembled, the written stage briefing will be read, followed by an inspection and question period. Shooters may negotiate obstacles only during this inspection period or while the previous shooter's targets are being scored.

EARLY INSPECTION

Early inspection is permitted by the squad next scheduled to shoot a stage, provided the previous squad is finished, you report to the Range Officer prior to inspection, and time permits.

HEADS UP RANGE OPENING — JULY 15, 1:00 PM

The range opens to all competitors starting July 15th at 1:00 PM. Competitors may inspect stages when available, but may NOT activate, set, or reset any moving targets or activated props, and must vacate any stage where match staff are doing final inspection.

08

Safety, Hazards & Spectators

EYE & HEARING PROTECTION

All competitors and visitors must wear eye and hearing protection at all times while on the range — no exceptions. If you do not have adequate eye protection, please see the Range Master.

HAZARD AREAS

Orange cones and/or safety flagging may be used to restrict certain areas of the range. For safety reasons, competitors and spectators are prohibited from going past these markers without permission.

CLOSED RANGE

If the range is marked closed and a barrier is across the range road, no competitors may enter for any reason. If a range area or road is roped or marked closed, DO NOT ENTER — you may be entering an impact area.

SPECTATORS

Everyone must wear ear and eye protection while on the range. Climbing on berms is not allowed. Children must be under the direct supervision of a parent.

09

Eligibility & Awards

ELIGIBILITY

The National Champion must be a U.S. citizen or a resident with a valid work permit (green card) and a current member of USPSA. You must be a current USPSA member before the commencement of the match in order to compete.

RECOGNITION

Trophies and plaques are awarded based on the criteria in Appendix A2 of the current USPSA Multigun Rules. In a National Championship there must be at least 10 competitors in a division, and 5 in a category within that division, for recognition.

PRIZE TABLE / TROPHIES

All trophies are given out at the awards ceremony — see the schedule for time and location. Prizes are distributed after the ceremony, to competitors based on order of finish in each division.

10

Scoring & Range Facilities

MATCH SCORING

The championship will use PractiScore. If you have scoring questions, contact the Range Master and Stats.

The U.S. Nationals exhibits, featuring many different suppliers to our sport, will be in the sponsor tent at the range. Only sponsors of the U.S. National Championships are allowed display areas on the range. Please acknowledge and thank them for their generous support.

REST ROOMS

Portable toilets are located conveniently around the range.

LOST BRASS

All brass is donated to the staff.

DRESS CODE

Practical shooting is a sport. The match director will be the final arbiter of dubious taste.
